The Cravendale advert is a short story of a boy made of biscuits who comes to life. He starts swimming in a lake of milk and because he’s made of biscuits he crumbles, the advertisement shows that Barry the Biscuit Boy loses his head along with a song in the background stating. ‘You’ll lose your head over Cravendale.’ The advert was made back in 2014, this advert replaced the ‘Cats with Thumbs’ advert that was released in 2011. The song that is played throughout the advert was made by the punk cabaret band the Tiger Lillies.
The first Cravendale advert was shown in 2007 and it was called ‘Cow, Pirate and Cyclist’, this was created by Wieden and Kennedy and animated by Pic Pic and André.
Now in 2015 a new advert has been released called The Milk Drinker. A man drinks a cup of Cravendale milk in the Bull Pub, when he saw what happens he was the milk drinker’s milk.
Cravendale wanted to create a world that no one has seen before for this add to represent the milk being like no other so they created a new world. They used puppetry, stop-motion and CG they were able to marry visually striking modern techniques with the warmth of old school charm.
In my opinion this advert is distinct and noticeable because of the protagonist Barry the Biscuit Boy and the catchy song that is played throughout the advert. The advert’s message is very clear as well, the message is that you’ll go crazy for Cravendale milk as the song clearly states ‘You’ll lose your head over Cravendale.’ As Barry the Biscuit Boy swims in Cravendale milk for too long and crumbles.
